When the Department of Transportation for a major U.S. city set out to increase ridership, they learned that their signage needed much improvement. The existing aluminum signs were lost in the street clutter and often were stolen for their scrap value. They turned to Universal Plastics for assistance. We worked in cooperation with their personnel to develop thermoformed signage which is both colorful and durable. The modular plastic signs allow for easy route changes, and offer greatly improved visibility over the aluminum version. Best of all, they have also reduced maintenance costs by over 90% due to their increased resistance to knock-down damage. The product was such a success that New York City has now converted all 5 boroughs to the new thermoformed plastic signs.
